Love Hangover

The words "I think I found my wedding planner" are the words that the former Imani Brodie spoke in our initial consultation after only 45 minutes of talking.  She and her fiancé walked in my office a week after getting engaged with hopes of getting married six months later.  I never take the journey of planning a wedding lightly.  Actually, it's something I take to heart.  For me, it's more than about planning one of the most special day of a couples lives but it's also about forming a lasting relationship- and that is just what happen on this short planning ride.

Spunky, energetic, courageous, compassionate, trustworthy, confident, smart, faith driven and extremely humble are just a few words that come to mind when I think about Imani.  Brave, bold, fearless, decisive,  adventurous, caring, and loving are what I think of when it comes to Chris.  After meeting them, it won't take long for you feel and see their love.  The common respect they have for each others thoughts, opinions, and feelings are very evident.  One key thing I picked up early is the way they make each other smile, naturally.

Along the journey, I got to know Imani and Chris personally.  Their likes and dislikes.  What made them tick and what made them give me the side eye.  Knowing these things helped in creating a day that Imani and Chris will never forget.  Where some ladies come to us knowing just what they want, Imani had a different approach.  She knew what she liked but was very trustworthy in letting myself and the designers take full rein of her wedding day.  Don't get me wrong, she would tell us quickly what she did and didn't like but was extremely easy to work with in creating her dream day.  She said it a million times- "Crystal, I trust whatever you, Ericka, and Jonathan put together for us.  I know it will be fabulous."

I'd like to take you on a visual wedding day journey with me.  A day that Chris and Imani Surratt will never forget.

The grooms grandmother was 97 years old and wasn't able to make it to the wedding.  We had the privilege of going to visit "Granny" prior to the wedding day so that she could record a special message to her grandson and future granddaughter.  Just in the short period of time we met with her, we could see why she was loved by so many.  Two weeks after the wedding, Granny passed away.  We are so happy Chris and Imani have this video to cherish for a lifetime.  What a beautiful long life to have lived. Her words in the video to Chris and Imani that stood out the most were "always love and be good to each other."

As Imani was walking through the hotel to take her place down the aisle, out of nowhere a rainstorm came, sending her guest to take cover and heavy winds to blow decor all over the ceremony location.  Imani watched it all unfold from an upstairs window.  Most brides would have had a total meltdown but not our Imani.  She looked at her father and said, "shot time."  She and her father waited the storm out in the hotel bar conversing with hotel guest and having a good time.  See why we love her……

When talking to Imani about the storm that came out of nowhere, she responded,  "That was just God answering my prayers.  I told Him last night I didn't want the sun to be too bright so I could look into Chris' eyes…."  Well, He answered her prayers and the ceremony proceeded as planned.

Only this woman would turn the corner, see her groom and jump for joy!  That's love…

Dancing in the Rain

No amount of rain, thunder, or lighting was going to stop this fairytale wedding from happening just the way it was planned.  Chris and Morgan were married this past May at a unique farm tucked away in Statesville NC called Green Gables Farms.  Upon entrance to this beautifully manicured farm, you immediately feel the southern hospitality as you are greeted by ravishing farmland filled with every breed of horse and farm animal you could imagine.

The details of this wedding were magnificently scripted by the bride and no stone was left unturned.  From the grooms brother who is an active military soldier surprising him moments before the wedding (total tear jerker) to the choreographed father and daughter dance by Morgan and her dad, this day was a dream come true.  We thank Chris and Morgan for allowing us to be a part of their special day and wish nothing but the best for them along their journey as husband and wife.

Here are a few of our favorite pictures capturing their day.  Thanks to Indigo Photography of Charlotte for the amazing photos.

The Perfect Verse Over a Tight Beat

I can remember it like it was yesterday, the words being uttered- "I think I found my wedding planner."  It didn't take a full hour for me to make an instant connection with a spunky, adventures, intelligent engineer named Imani and her cool, collect, fitness trainer fiancé Chris.  They have been a joy to work with as we quickly plan their summer wedding in Asheville NC.  On the way to venue search, they looked at me and said- "hey Crystal, do you know Johnnyswim?"  My response,  "no, I don't think I have (thinking I really should expand my music playlist and take my New Edition obsession off repeat and join the rest of the world).   They instantly showed me a picture and said "this is our inspiration for our engagement session, can you make it happen?"  Well, ummm- heck yeah I can!   Thanks to Lucy and Steve, the wonderful photographers of Smitten and Hooked, for bringing the awesomeness to this spicy, love intense, fun, awww inspiring engagement shoot.  Thanks to the Labortory Mills and Old South Vintage Rentals for connecting with us and making Imani and Chris' engagement shoot one to remember.  Enjoy and be inspired!

Chic in the City

For almost 10 months, we have been planning a fall wedding for Jenelle and Deatric.  To be around the two of them, you will instantly recognize their chemistry and gravitate to their kindness.  We had a great time making their engagement shoot vision come to life.  Thanks Shanna Duffy Photography for capturing the essence of Jenelle and Deatric's love.  Thanks to Crave Dessert Bar as well for letting us use their venue as a canvas for life long memories.  Here are a few of our favorites!  Enjoy!
